BEND - Crescent Valley High could not keep up after a quick start in a 3-1 loss at Mountain View High on Wednesday in a state 5A playoffs play-in game.
Game scores were 25-27, 25-11, 25-21, 25-23. The loss ends CV's season.
Although the Raiders won the first game, they had an 18-8 lead and momentum faded by the time they held on. The Raiders continued to backpedal throughout the second game.
CV kept it close in the third and fourth games but could not overcome the Cougars, who advance to play at Ashland on Saturday.
Sarah Roshak had a school-record 16 blocks for Mountain View.
S. Christian 3, Creswell 0
ADAIR VILLAGE - Santiam Christian defeated Creswell in a PacWest League seeding game.
Games scores were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14. It was the third time this year the Eagles had defeated Creswell and all three were by 3-0.
SC thus earned the PacWest League's top seed for the upcoming 3A state tournament. SC hosts the third-place team from the Lewis & Clark Conference on Saturday.
Sara Almen led all players with 12 kills and four blocks for SC. Tayla Woods, named as the PacWest Player of the Year after the match, had 14 assists, 11 kills, four blocks and three aces.
Anna Wruck added 10 kills and Kiersten Hendrix had 17 assists.
Stayton 3, Philomath 0
STAYTON - Philomath could not keep the pace and lost at Stayton in the first round of the 4A playoffs.
Game scores were 25-17, 25-14, 25-14.
"They were a pretty solid team but we definitely should have played better," PHS coach Whitney Stearns said. "We had a rough night tonight."
Laura Schaudt had nine kills, Kayla Thorsness had six kills and Jessica Motter added seven assists for the Warriors.
Stearns said PHS has not been to the playoffs in several years, which was not lost on the players.
"They were pretty fired up just to be there," she said.
