Oregon State football player Taylor Kavanaugh was named to the 12-member 2009 American Foot-ball Coaches Association Good Works Team.
The three-year letterman has been actively involved in community service and is a standout in the classroom where he has been selected to the Pacific-10 Conference all-academic team three times.
Kavanaugh has already graduated with a degree in construction engineering management. He is OSU's punt returner, holder and a reserve receiver.
Part of his off-the-field activities include being involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Read Across America program, a Corvallis Parks and Recreation basketball coach and academic tutor.
He participated in the Associated Schools of Construction annual competition in Nevada last winter and during spring break he traveled to Guatemala to build a house for a needy family.
Team stats
The Rodgers brothers, James and Jacquizz, are tied for second in the Pac-10 in receiving with 6.3 catches a game.
The Beavers are last in the Pac-10 in allowing sacks with 10 and tied for last with Arizona State in getting sacks with two.
They are last in the Pac-10 in opponent third-down conversion at 42.5 percent.
TV time
The Oct. 3 Pac-10 game at Arizona State will begin at 4 p.m., and be broadcast by Versus. That will be the 23rd consecutive live TV game.
