Girls soccer: Warriors collect 10 honors

Philomath High's girls soccer team had 10 field players and two goalies receive league honors for Special District 4.

Haley Gaffney was named the player of the year and John Williams the coach of the year.

First-team honors went to Gaffney, Sierra Grunwald and Tegan Grunwald, while second-team honors went to Andrea Whiteman, Joceline Howard and Joy deVos.

Santiam Christian's Victoria Hendricks was a first-team selection, while McKenzie Thompson was second team along with keeper Quincy Davis.

Mykinnon Hardwood, Helen Coskey, Barry McLaren, Rylee Marshall and keepers Alyssa Ray and Jenna Delos Reyes received honorable mention forPhilomath.

Santiam Christian's Hannah Bittner, Laura Thompson and Brooke Callis also recieved honorable mention.

Philomath also received the sportsmanship award.

Cheldelin boys team finishes second

PORTLAND - Placing four runners in the top 30, the Cheldelin Middle School boys' team finished second at the Middle School Championships held at Fernhill Park in Portland on Oct. 31.

The Cheldelin girls' team finished in fifth place.

Hole-in-one

Jim Turpin of Corvallis hit his first hole-in-one on Thursday at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

Turpin used a 5-wood to ace the 157-yard fourth hole. The shot was witnessed by Charlie Fisher, Rene Moyer and Jason Wallis.
