The day before the Linn-Benton Community College Board of Education will meet to discuss presidential candidates, the college announced Tuesday that one of its vice presidents is no longer with the school.
An e-mail sent by President Rita Cavin Tuesday afternoon announced that Vice President of Student Services and Government Affairs Bill Thallemer was no longer with the college.
The reason for Thallemer’s departure was not given, and officials did not respond to phone calls from the Democrat-Herald.
Thallemer came to LBCC in June 2008. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Mississippi. Prior to joining LBCC he was president of Lake Land College in Matton, Ill., and vice president for student services at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas.
In her e-mail, Cavin said Thallemer’s administrative responsibilities would be split among Martha Fugate, director of human services; Bruce Clemetsen, dean of student services; John McArdle, director of development; Jim Huckestein, vice president, and Carol Schaafsma, executive vice president.
Assignments will be through June 30, 2010.
Clemetson will hold the title of acting vice president of student services, and McArdle will be director of development and government relations during the period.
The college’s board of education is scheduled to meet tonight to discuss a possible successor for Cavin, who is stepping down from her position at the end of the year. The field of candidates has been narrowed to Gregory J. Hamann and Darlene G. Miller.
Hamann is president of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, and Miller recently served as president of Manchester Community College in Manchester, N.H.
