City seeks helpers to plant street trees

Anyone interested in adding to Corvallis' street tree "forest" is invited to join volunteer work crews this Saturday and on the following Saturday, Nov. 14.

In exchange for help with the planting, the volunteers will learn proper tree planting techniques to ensure better success in getting young trees to thrive.

The project is designed to provide more shade, habitat for birds and to reduce Corvallis' carbon footprint.

The planting is expected to last from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Interested persons should meet at Franklin Park, at the corner of 15th Street and Taylor Avenue.

On Nov. 14, the project will begin at the corner of Sixth Street and Jefferson Avenue.

Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and a shovel if they have them, but if not, they still can come and contribute their energy.
