Surviving the Holidays: Healing Hearts Ministries will present a class, "Surviving the Holidays After Separation or Divorce," from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Monday at Oak Creek Christian Center, 5775 Columbus St. S.E., Albany. It is geared for those going through a separation, divorce or grief for a loved one. The "DivorceShare: Surviving the Holidays" video, discussion group and devotional material are designed to help participants not only survive the holidays, but find strength, healing and tools to move forward. There is no charge for the class. An optional "Surviving the Holidays" book can be purchased for $5. The instructor is Karen Bull. Choral extravaganza: The United Campus Ministry at Westminster House will host the "Make A Joyful Noise Choral Extravaganza" at 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 1165 N.W. Monroe Ave. This event draws on choirs from several mid-valley churches. Each choir sings a piece; then the choirs join in a piece to close the concert. Linnea Good, a singer/songwriter from British Columbia, Canada, will make a guest appearance. She is the composer of "Make A Joyful Noise," which will close the concert. Good will accompany the choirs on piano. A free-will offering in support of the campus ministry will be taken. Refreshments will be served afterward.
Orthodox leader discusses the 12 steps: Orthodox Christian spiritual leader and author Meletios Webber will give a presentation on the transformative power of 12-step programs from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the historic Lewisburg Grange Hall, 6000 N.E. Elliott Circle north of Corvallis. The event is hosted by St. Anne Orthodox Church, and admission is free. Fr. Webber is abbot of the Monastery of St. John in Manton, Calif. He is a doctor of psychology, and has written numerous books and articles on the Eastern Christian faith and recovery from substance addiction. Two of his most recently published books are "Steps of Transformation: an Orthodox Priest Explores the 12 Steps" and "Bread and Water, Wine and Oil: An Orthodox Christian Experience of God."
