CORVALLIS - The Zemlinsky Quartet from the Czech Republic will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at LaSells Stewart Center, at Oregon State University. The concert is the second in the 2009-10 Chamber Music Corvallis series.

Named for the Austrian composer Alexander Zemlinsky, this Czech group was formed in 1994 and has won many prizes for their exemplary performances, including the Banff International String Quartet competition in 2007 and the Prague Spring International Competition in 2005.

Members of the quartet, Frantisek Soucek, violin, Petr Strizek, violin, Petr Homman, viola, and Vladimir Fortin, cello, studied together at the Prague Conservatory and Academy of Performing Arts Prague. They currently are teaching as the assistant quartet-in-residence in Musikakademie Basel, Switzerland.

On the program will be the "Quartet No. 2 in D Minor" by Bedrich Smetana and "Quartet No. 16 in E-flat Major, K. 428" by W. A. Mozart. "Test Run for String Quartet" by the Canadian composer John Estachio will lead off the program. This work was commissioned by the Banff International String Quartet Competition and performed by all 10 contestants.

Advance tickets for the concert can be purchased for $22 at Grass Roots Books & Music in Corvallis and at Sid Stevens Jewelers in Albany, or online until the day before the concert from the Chamber Music Corvallis Web site: www.violins.org.

General admission tickets purchased at the door will be $25. K-12 students and OSU students are admitted free with a student ID.
