Haruguchi sets school record in 200-yard butterfly

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Sophomore Saori Haruguchi set a school record in the 200-yard butterfly and the Oregon State swim team finished in seventh place on Saturday at the Pacific-10 Conference meet for the fourth consecutive year.
The Beavers scored 471 team points to easily outdistance Northwest rivals Washington (411) and Washington State (311). The four-day event was held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool; Arizona edged Stanford to defend its 2006 title.
Haruguchi finished fifth in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.24 to break the old school record of 1:57.42, set by former OSU All-American Naya Higashijima in 2003. Kayla Rawlings placed 11th in the same event in 2:01.23.
Sandy Hong took 15th place in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:50.31, the second-fastest time in school history. Megan Evans placed 11th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.75; Felicia Castaneda was 15th in 2:17.66.
The 400 relay foursome of Haruguchi, Castaneda, Rawlings, and Anna Crandall finished eighth in 3:26.44.
