Oregon State play-by-play announcer Mike Parker of Corvallis has been selected as the 2006 Oregon Sportscaster of the Year for the second consecutive year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association of Salisbury, N.C..
It’s the fourth such honor for the 48-year-old Parker, an OSU employee since 1999. He also won in 1999, 2002 and 2005.
“I’m really overwhelmed by the honor and for the second straight year is unbelievable,” Parker said. “I’ve had the privilege of calling some of the greatest moments in the history of OSU athletics, and I think an award like this is a function of being involved with such great events
“The national championship in baseball, the amazing football season. It’s a thrill to be a part of all this and I’m looking forward to many more highlights in the future.”
Parker is in his eighth year broadcasting football, men’s basketball and baseball games. He also hosts Beaver Sports Talk, emcees other OSU-related events and co-hosts a daily sports talk show.
He will also be the play-by-play voice of the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League this summer.
Parker is a 1982 Oregon graduate. He has also handled play-by-play duties at the high school level; minor league baseball duties with the Eugene Emeralds and Portland Beavers, and the Oregon women’s basketball program.
Parker has also been a radio talk show host in Portland. He is married and has two children.
